Vogue Bag 8406, OOP

Yesterday I went to Joanns,  just checking out the 50% off home dec clearance. This tapestry all but jumped up and broke into my wallet. It was love at first sight. I bought a yard and a half, which came to 5.00 and tax. Yippee! It is soft, not a rough thick tapestry.  I thought it could be great as a jacket with blue jeans or as a bag. I have been frustrated with the function of my bags lately  and really don't need a jacket right now so it will be a bag.
Here is my issue with lots of my personal bags. Over time I have figured out that my favorite bag is a large bucket or tote bag that closes. I like to easily access my "innards" and a lot of bags I have made could do that a lot better. I need a place for a all the  bric a brac. My other bags function but not as perfectly as they could for my specific needs. This bag, Vogue 8406, (OOP but still available) is tote like with a gusset that tapers to nothing on the sides. I really like that it has two zippers that open in the center of the bag and go halfway down the sides. Can't open a bag much more than that! I am excited about this bag.

Because tapestries ravel so much I immediately went to the serger to close up the edges. This made the edges wavy, something unpredictable, so I didn't turn up the differential feed. That has made me decide not to use the recommended hair canvas interfacing but something fusible instead. This will strengthen those seam allowances and hopefully prevent any stretching and raveling.  The edges will easily steam back into shape and then the fusible will go on.

A great advantage to this tapestry is the selvedge. Isn't it yummy? Gotta think of something to use with it.

A view of the St. Regis River from our hike Saturday. I only wish I could have gotten a closer shot of this waterfall but it was pretty inaccessible....Bunny

  3. Love that fabric! Maybe you could use the selvedge as a trim on a pocket? Or a key holder?

  4. Your fabric is super! Why is it's so difficult to find the perfect bag, or pattern for a bag? I like a large satchel that closes. Maybe this pattern is what I'm looking for.

  7. Oh, good for you! I troll the discount fabric and Joann's, too, and once in a while find a nice treasure. I should go tomorrow and take a look, I need some lining anyway.
